| Desirable "circulation cameo" effect is provided on the obverse by nearly ebony colored fields that contrast sharply with ivory-grey devices. The reverse provides a competing appearance with less contrast, but substantial original iridescence that fills the fields. Brilliant chartreuse-orange and indigo-green hues compete for dominance in this color scheme, and the swirls about the fields behind the eagle's motif. While the details are a little stronger than implied by the assigned VF-25 grade, close inspection reveals that the surfaces are slightly more prone to handling marks than usual, leading to an overall VF-20 grade assessment. The most important impairment, mild as it is, is a slender hairline that descends from Liberty's forecurl into the left obverse field. Large-sized quarters this nice are terribly difficult to locate this nice in today's market, and strictly original examples like this are not available nearly often enough. |
