Certified or not, many Randall coins have been oiled, lacquered, or otherwise had their luster enhanced to make them even more appealing than they are naturally. This coin has seen no such treatment, and is as original as the day it was plucked out of the keg of coins that comprised the Randall hoard. Fiery flame-red mint luster glows beautifully from beneath patination that is almost perfectly divided between red and brown color. Remarkably, the surfaces are essentially entirely free of the carbon spotting often seen on these coins, with the only thing resembling carbon being a tiny dot just in front of the hairbun, and perhaps a couple of others on the rim. Oddly, the only detraction for this coin is a thin streak of grey toning that streaks directly across the middle of the obverse from between S3 and S4 to just above Liberty's ear. I can think of no explanation for this phenomenon, but careful examination reveals that it is not etched into the surface, and is in fact strictly a toning phenomenon. This is such a spectacularly original and attractive coin that it is difficult to imagine a nicer one existing. In my opinion, it is superior in quality to the Rasmussen and Childs coins. A tiny bagmark is visible just beneath Liberty's eye, and another is just northeast of S3, but I could find NONE on the reverse, so the commercial grade is probably MS-66 RB. I grade this coin EAC-64
