The late die state with a cud joining TED in UNITED on the reverse. A perfectly graded coin in F-12 (EAC VG-8), with a scratch above S6, a dig next to S10, a couple of superficial surface pinpricks and the usual scattering of circulation marks. Surfaces are caramel brown with a mild level of darker encrustation of on either side, particularly on the reverse. To quote the Robbie Brown auction catalog (1986, lot 648), 'This rare die state was first reported in 1914 by Augustus C. Gies, who notified Dr. Charles A. McGirk.'
