Because of the bisecting obverse die-crack that weakened and ulitmately shattered the obverse die, this die-marriage must always be graded by the reverse. There are four die-marriages for 1837, and three of them display a bisecting die-crack, which explains the popularity of the date, and the reason why an otherwise common issue is actually a little tough to find available on the market. This is a nicely original coin that actually displays glimmers of mint luster, which would tend to imply a slightly higher grade. However, a couple of rim dings figure into my EF assignment, particularly at 8:00 on the obverse, and a couple more on the left side of the reverse. The reverse shows some nice rotation, which I personally believe was intentionally done by the mint in an attempt to extend the use of the faulty obverse die.
