Sparkling mint luster invigorates each side of this appealing 1827 Capped Bust half-dollar. Cobalt-blue album tone transforms into cinnamon-gold color and lovingly frames the radiant silver focal area on each side, accenting the artistic quality of the primary devices. A slightly blunt strike is characteristic of O-117 ('square base 2'), but this coin displays good definition of the stars around the obverse. From the standpoint of pure aesthetic appeal, the reverse is probably the better of the two sides, yet overall, this is just an outstanding early half-dollar.
